at Beverage Testing Institute's International Spirits Review  
With Highest Scores in Both Unaged and Aged Cachaça Categories
Cuca Fresca Takes Home More Gold Medals

Chicago, IL (January XX, 2008) — Cuca Fresca, a Brazilian line of premium cachaças, ranked best in category for products entered in the both the unaged and aged cachaça categories at the Beverage Testing Institute’s International Spirits Review. With scores of 90 and 92 respectively, Cuca Fresca Premium Cachaça and Pura Gold, an aged variation of the spirit, were both classified as “exceptional” and both received gold medals.

“We are thrilled to have gained this recognition from such an established competition and experienced panel of judges,” said Phoenix Kelly-Rappa, partner of Cuca Fresca LLC. “Receiving the highest scores of all the cachacas in the unaged and aged categories confirms our belief that Cuca Fresca is the best premium cachaça in the U.S market.”

The Beverage Testing Institute ( BTI)—was founded in 1981, as America’s premier independent alcoholic beverage review organization with a mission to create fair and reliable reviews of wines for consumers. In 1994, BTI began reviewing beers and spirits and founded the World Beer Championships and the World Spirits Championships—now named the International Review of Spirits. BTI regularly reviews thousands of beverages every year.

To make their results as accurate and consistent as possible, the Beverage Testing Institute uses a dedicated tasting lab in Chicago. This room was specially designed to minimize external factors and maximize panelists’ concentration. Panelists are highly experienced, professional guest tasters who are retailers, restaurateurs, or prominent writers that are especially knowledgeable about the beverage category being reviewed. All panelists are rigorously screened and audited and then trained in BTI’s proprietary blind tasting methodology. Tastings are led by BTI’s Director, Jerald O’Kennard, who is one of the world’s foremost authorities on alcoholic beverages.

These two gold medals are the latest honors that Cuca Fresca’s line of products has received from major tasting competitions, establishing Cuca Fresca as a leader in the burgeoning premium cachaça category. In addition to the awards given by BTI, Cuca Fresca Premium Cachaça and Pura Gold won gold and silver medals at the 7 th Annual San Francisco World Spirits Competition, held in March 2007. Cuca Fresca Premium Cachaça and Pura Gold were also the second and third place winners at the Brazilian Meeting of Chemistry of Food and Beverages cachaça competition, where they were tested against over two hundred other cachaças from Brazil.

Cuca Fresca Premium Cachaças stand out for the historical artisanal cachaça-making methods used to create them. Cuca Fresca is double-distilled in artisan copper pots instead of using the column distillation process, used by mass-produced cachaças, that often compromises taste and quality. Each batch of cachaça is made from organically grown sugarcane that has been harvested from a single

source, and each bottle is filled with cachaça from a single batch that has been triple filtered. Cuca Fresca Pura Gold is then carefully aged in oak barrels for up to five years. This production method affords Cuca Fresca the ability to closely control every step of the cachaça-making process and continue to deliver a consistently premium product.

Steeped in family tradition, Cuca Fresca was created through the union of two historical cachaça making families in Brazil. In 2006, the Ferreira’s, fifth-generation cachaça makers, joined forces with Aguardente Caribeña LTD, another of Brazil’s prestigious cachaça distillers, to create Cuca Fresca specifically for the American and international marketplace.

Cuca Fresca Premium Cachaça-90 Points

Clear. Tropical flowers, bananas in cream, and brown spice aromas. A round, silky entry leads to a dry-yet-fruity medium-to-full body of banana cream pie, nuts, and powdered sugar flavors. Finishes with a very long, smooth and pleasant banana bread, sugar cane, and custard like fade. Very smooth and flavorful. (tasted on Nov-13-2007)

Cuca Fresca Pura Gold-92 Points

Golden straw green color. Sweet spicy baked banana, suede, earthy mint, and creme brulee aromas follow through to a dryish silky medium-to-full body with nice toasted banana bread and mineral accents. Finishes with a peppery, banana, nutmeg, toasted almond and pepper fade. Nice purity and spice. (tasted on Nov-13-2007)
