Hello friends of the Coastal Extreme Brewing Company and Newport Distilling Company! We hope you are supporting your local breweries and distilleries and that you continue to enjoy Newport Storm beer and Thomas Tew rum!
ON THE SHELVES NOW – Hurricane Amber Ale, Cyclone Series Mark, Rhode Island Blueberry, and Thomas Tew Rum
It’s been a few months since we last communicated. No, we haven’t gone underground. In fact, we’ve been busy building above ground. Equipment has arrived, cabinets have been built, walls have been painted, and lights have been hooked up. As you may have guessed, it has been a very busy few months. However, we are getting prepared for the final stages. As I write this the polyurethane is being applied to the tasting counter and the sawdust is being swept up all in preparation for opening day – tomorrow, Wednesday February 3 rd.
We have been flooded with inquiries about when we are opening so rather than waiting until all the construction is complete, we have elected to clean the place up and open our doors while we continue to install the rest of the finishing touches to the facility. Of course, with the new location and visitor’s center, comes a whole new set of ways to experience the brewery. Here are the basics.
During our “soft” opening period our visitors center and tasting room will be open from 12pm – 5pm daily. We will be closed on Tuesdays. A guided tour will be offered daily at 3pm. The cost for a tour and tasting, which includes a souvenir pint glass, will remain the same at $5 until our new custom crystal glassware comes in for our tasting room (much of our brand new logoed apparel is already here!). Our tour deck will be open whenever the visitor’s center is open so you can get a great look at the facility even when there isn’t a scheduled tour.
Over the coming months we will gradually be adding to the experience. For those of you concerned about our Friday’s at 6 tradition, we plan on bringing it back once we are a little more settled and we will be sure to send out details. In addition, as we get a feel for the visitation demand we may adjust the hours of operation and the number of scheduled tours. One of the many new opportunities for our new brewery and distillery will be the opportunity to taste our Thomas Tew Rum once we are a bit more settled. Please also keep in mind that, for a variety of reasons, we are not able to fill growlers at our facility. We are also working on accommodating private tours, putting on special events, and a series of grand opening celebrations. Keep your eye on the website and newsletter for updates.
Finally, please come and visit us at the new location – 293 JT Connell Rd in Newport. We have put countless hours and a lot of resources into creating a fantastic visitor experience at our new home. After 10 years of collecting feedback on what worked and what needed improvement at the old facility, we went all out to make it happen at our new place.
Of course, opening our visitor’s center isn’t the only thing we’ve been up to. The brewing has begun at the new facility. As luck would have it, we have 4 different beers fermenting away in our brand new tanks. One new beer that is already out of the tanks is the latest Cyclone Series – Mark. Named after one of the founding partners, it is a truly Rhode Island inspired beer. We teamed up with the folks at Autocrat to make a Coffee Milk Stout. The 7% ale is pitch black with tons of body and an unmistakable coffee milk flavor. Grab some now before it’s too late.
We have promotions and events all over Rhode Island, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. Check out the listings below and, if we are in your area, come join us. We love seeing familiar faces at these events. There is a more detailed, up to date, monthly listing on the calendar at www.newportstorm.com.
