New Player in Town Takes Top Honors at First-Ever Golden Rum Barrel Awards at U.K.’s Rumfest
NEW YORK (November 2010) – The first Golden Rum Barrel Awards, held on October 16 in London, announced Banks 5 Island Rum as the winner of the Best White Rum category.
The Golden Rum Barrel Awards, associated with U.K. Rumfest, is the first internationally recognized award for rums. The panel of judges is composed of rum experts and journalists from around the world who nominate their favorite or the most exciting rum within a chosen category. U.K. Rumfest launched in 2006 and is the world’s biggest festival celebrating the diversity of rum.
“It’s an honor to be recognized among such a high caliber of competitors,” says Arnaud de Trabuc, Banks 5 Island Rum’s Master Blender and former Chairman of the Board of Angostura Group S.A. “When we envisioned Banks 5 Island Rum, we wanted to create something that has never been made before. Winning this award affirms that blending rums from five countries produces stellar results.”
Banks 5 Island Rum combines aged and unaged, pot and column-distilled rums including mature Trinidadian rum, aromatic Jamaican rum, grassy Guyanese rum, clean Barbados rum and Indonesian Batavia arrack to build layers of flavor. Launched in August, the spirit has already won the Chairman’s Trophy Award (96 points) at the Ultimate Cocktail Challenge in New York City.
Produced by Joseph Banks Rums Corporation and distributed by Winebow Inc., Banks 5 Island Rum (43% ABV; 1L, 750ml, 100ml) is available at top bars and restaurants in New York, Washington D.C., Chicago, Boston and Atlanta, and fine spirit retailers for the suggested retail price of $27.99; www.banksrum.com ..
