San Diego Wine and Culinary Center

Balboa Park , home of the world-reknown San Diego Zoo, is also home to dozens of cultural attractions including museums, formal gardens and culture centers. Sea World, the Wild Animal Park, Old Town Historic Park, Hotel Del Coronado, Mission Beach, La Jolla Shores and the Gaslamp Quarter are only a few of the attractions that make San Diego the place to visit, and, most are within a few minute’s drive. You might take the trolley or train to most attractions, but, please make sure you stop at the Spirits of Mexico tasting event in Downtown San Diego.

The site of this year’s event, The San Diego Wine & Culinary Center , located at 200 Harbor Drive—trolley stop @ Convention Center--is dedicated to promoting the food and wine bounty of San Diego County. Working with local winemakers, growers, chefs, restaurateurs and quality food purveyors, it brings the finest locally-produced products to the consumer. Wine tastings, chef demonstrations, product sampling, classes, seminars, banquets, tours and excursions take place on a regular basis at the Center.

Co-owners John Alongé and Hans-Trevor Gossmann have owned or operated restaurants in Paris , New York , San Francisco , Las Vegas , Santa Barbara and San Diego . Their passion for great food and great wine led them to bring a center for culinary learning and exploration to San Diego .

Silent Auction

The Polished Palate events host Silent Auctions, to benefit the Sky Ranch Foundation. Since 1960, Sky Ranch for Boys has been giving troubled kids a second chance. With the financial backing of the Sky Ranch Foundation and its network of contributors, Sky Ranch today is a 3,000 acre working ranch, a licensed special education school and an inspiration to those who know and understand its special work.

Auction items are generously donated by our participating brands. Last year, Espolon Tequila donated a full case of assorted bottlings, valued at +$500. A rare bottle of Ponciano Porfidio Barrique, donated by Phillip Soto Mares, Catador & President of El Duende Tequila, and, a personally engraved bottle of Chinaco’s 30 th Anniversary “Emperador” Anejo Reserva, (engraved by the Owner and Master Distiller German Gonzalez), won the highest bids, earning $1,250 combined. For information on the Sky Ranch Foundation or for donations to our Silent Auction, kindly contact Duncan Cameron, Treasurer, at 540-891-7201.
