Cabana Cachaça is the brain child of Matti Anttila, a former investment banker in his late 20’s. Having been exposed to cachaça during his extensive travels in Brazil , it occurred to Matti that this product segment was virtually unknown in the United States , particularly at the premium level. What ensued was a quest to bring a truly premium cachaça to the North American market that would elevate the sophisticated consumer’s perception of this globally significant spirit. After extensive research in Brazil , he found the perfect cachaça in the state of São Paulo , a region with a terroir recognized for producing the best sugarcane in the world. He knew he had found exactly what he was looking for: the innovative double-distillation process produced a clean spirit supremely smooth and enjoyable on the palate, which retained the important hints of freshly pressed sugarcane, while minimizing the impurities that are commonly associated with cachaça. Matti soon brought on his good friends Nick Barquin and Priscilla Bittencourt as partners and Cabana was born.

With a U.S. rollout that began in June, 2006, Cabana appeals to the steadily growing demographic of sophisticated, individualistic drinkers who are increasingly looking for a new luxury spirit experience. The purest form of rum, with a delicately citrus nose and a smooth, round finish, Cabana is set to become synonymous with the product category itself, redefining the space and propelling cachaça from beneath the bar to front and center alongside the most premium spirits in the world.

Cabana Cachaça is double-distilled from fresh natural cane in pot stills and mellowed for two months in French oak, creating a truly ultra-premium cachaça, with maximum quality and versatility. Suggested Retail: $34.99

Rhum Clement Premiere Canne White Rum

F. Paul Pacult, Spirit Journal, June ’05, 4 Stars, Highly Recommended Rhum Clement Premiere Canne White Rum, June ’05, “Crystal clear and very clean. In the first whiffs I detect grassy/beany notes of sugar cane, cola nut, vanilla bean, and fresh, flowery spirit just off the pot still; after another six minutes in the copita, the aroma narrows its focus on the grassiness; a one-dimensional bouquet, but compelling in its purity just the same. The palate entry is sensational, in that, the narrow aroma becomes a broad, expansive, and generous early taste that includes healthy doses of cocoa bean, bittersweet chocolate, black tea, and unrefined sugar; the midpalate acts as a reinforcement of the palate entry, adding a more pronounced element of fresh, raw spirit. Concludes gracefully in the throat, with subtle notes of sugary sweetness, zesty spirit, and vanilla. What white rums should be. Liked this incarnation more than their Clement Blanc from the early ‘90’s; Silver Medal San Francisco World Spirits Competition, 05

Rhum Clement Creole Shrubb

F. Paul Pacult, Spirit Journal, June ’05, 3 Stars, Recommended “ Yellow/gold in color; impeccably pure. The first nosing is greeted by a delectably acidic and mildly sweet scent of orange peel (this is a smooth tasting concoction made from a maceration of rum, sugar cane syrup and orange peel); further time in the glass reveals a deft touch of raw cocoa that rounds out the bouquet nicely. The palate entry is sweet, thick, and suitably orangey; at midpalate, the orange peel zestiness kicks it up a notch in intensity, thereby countering the sugary sweetness. Ends up sweet, a bit intense, and appropriately orangey.

Rhum Clement VSOP

F. Paul Pacult, Spirit Journal, June ’05, 4 Stars, Highly Recommended “ The amber/autumn leaf gold/honey color is very pretty and pure and very immature brandy-like. The first sniffings pick up muted aromas of brown sugar and milk chocolate; aeration time of another six minutes does little in the way of stirring further aromatic development, except for traces of peanut and black pepper. The elegant yet assertive palate entry is firm, peppery, moderately sweet, and cane-like; at midpalate, the flavor profile turns silky in texture, semisweet and cocoa-like to the taste, and eminently elegant and sophisticated in style. Finishes sweet, honeyed, medium-bodied, svelte, and utterly yummy.

Cockspur Fine Rum

An extremely pleasant experience for what could be considered a standard rum. Dark sugar and alcohol overtones are very predominant, very slight lemon undertones. A wonderful drink! It’s colour is very light grapefruit /star fruit yellow. The nose is sherried alcohol with a warm sensation. First trip to the nose implies a mellowy sweet and honey waft until just after halfway into the experience and then the demerara sugar kicks in to complete the second leg. Not complex but very pleasant. Its taste and texture starts extremely smooth, becoming spicy on the palette. Light bite on the back of the throat and upper front gums. Peppery crescendo although very round and warm giving way to Caribbean cinnamon spice. Great mouth feel getting slightly buttery towards the end.

Cockspur 12 YO VSOR

Gold Medal Winner 2006

A beautiful sherry red & intense plumy colour. It’s nose is intense and alcohol filled explosion on the nose. Very measured woody and constant undertones throughout with shortbread making a brief visit. Orange peel and rock sugar. Rich, ripe plums and Caribbean Fruit cake flavours are apparent right from the very start. Strong brandy type influence is always present. The kind of flavour experience that your nose would ask for on its birthday!

The taste and texture is wonderfully smooth and deep rounded velvety taste with a clove or two making a brief but special appearance. Some dryness occurs at the back of the mouth with an intense but pleasant tingle all round the upper gums that spreads to the lips. Earth and woody tones are present along with a prolonged spice experience. "Velvet on the tongue" feeling that pans out into a dry aftertaste. Intensely pleasing throat burn and bite and a huge warming sensation as it goes all the way down to your socks

Confident, weighty and complete. A complete meal in a glass on a cold winter's night. This is what drinking rum is all about! Definitely one for the connoisseur. A fabulous rum...

Cockspur Rum Punch

Cockspur Rum Punch is an exquisite blend of tropical fruit juices and award winning Cockspur Rum. This delicious Rum Punch is ready to drink, just add ice and garnish with grated nutmeg. Country of Origin: Brazil

Steeped in family tradition, Cuca Fresca was created through the union of two historical cachaça making families in Brazil. Among the first farmers to obtain a cachaça license in 1937 was Carlos de Paula Ferreira, grandfather to Araci Ferreira Slasinski who is part of this fifth generation cachaça-making family and one of the principal developers of Cuca Fresca. In 2006, the Ferreira family joined forces with Aguardente Caribena LTD, another of Brazil’s prestigious cachaça distillers, to create Cuca Fresca specifically for the American and international marketplace.

From the Portuguese for “cool head,” Cuca Fresca stands out among other cachaças because of the historic artisanal cachaça-making methods used to create a product of exceptional quality, distinct from other cachaças already in the American marketplace. Preserving these methods was of utmost importance to both premium distillers. Unlike many other mass-produced cachaças, Cuca Fresca is double distilled in artisan copper pots instead of using the column distillation process that often compromises taste and quality. Each batch of cachaça is made from naturally grown sugarcane that has been harvested from a single source, and each bottle is filled with cachaça from a single batch that has been double filtered. This production method affords Cuca Fresca the ability to closely control every step of the cachaça-making process and continue to deliver a consistently premium product.

The world’s finest rhum agricole since 1651, Depaz Rhum is made exclusively from fresh, luxurious blue cane, seasonally harvested and produced at the Depaz Estate on the lush tropical island of Martinique, French West Indies. Available in limited quantities, Depaz has received the coveted Appellation d’Origine Controlee designation confirming its adherence to precise standards of excellence.

The renowned Chateau Depaz Estate, established in 1651 by Martinique’s premier gouverneur, Jacques Duparquet. The estate, nestled in the charming coastline city of St. Pierre, on the French Island of Martinique, offers an extraordinary visual feast. Equally breathtaking is the sight of luxurious fields of rare, expensive blue cane, which are unique to this most fertile landscape.

Depaz’s signature ingredient is estate-produced blue cane. Considered the costliest and most difficult cane to grow, Depaz Estate Blue cane delivers the ideal balance of sugars for maximum flavor and character delivering a superb floral nose and a smooth, flavorful and refined character to the rhum. Even within Martinique, very few locations are suited to produce blue cane at the quality level and quantity necessary for developing a luxury rhum.

Playing a special role in the soul of St. Pierre for more than 350 years, the Depaz Estate is located in the Northwest region of Martinique, at the foot of the island’s highest mountain, Mount Pelee. In 1902, Mount Pelee delivered a devastating volcanic eruption which impassioned Victor Depaz, the sole surviving family member, to ultimately return to the Estate in 1917 to successfully rebuild the Depaz Chateau and the agricultural distillery. It’s these volcanic ashes that today continue to fuel the rich development and production of the special blue cane that permeates Depaz with its ‘explosive’ taste and character.

Dark copper. Vanilla bean and baked banana pie aromas. A viscous, moderately sweet full palate with tons of raisin puree, toffee, molasses, brown spice and pepper. Long smoky wood and spice finish. Named for their farm and for the beauty and the golden sunsets, this family tradition has tremendous respect for Mother Earth and their workers who produce this golden distillation. Their distillation in Brazil is called ‘Cachaca Alimbique” because they produce limited quantities in small batches using traditional copper pot stills for distillation.

Gosling’s Rum is a Bermuda Tradition that goes back seven generations. In 1806, the Gosling family left London for America . Becalmed at sea, James Gosling put in at Bermuda where he set up shop leading to what would become the finest line of rum in the world.

Gosling’s Black Seal Rum

Black Seal has become synonymous with Bermuda . Gosling’s Black Seal Rum is made from a 150-year old family recipe, using the finest distillates and aged in charred American oak casks. It has a rich, intricate flavor, well balanced and nuanced with butterscotch, vanilla and caramel. The trademarked “Dark ‘n Stormy”, the official drink of Bermuda , is made with Black Seal and ginger beer. “Deep, assertive and highly flavoured. Very fragrant with herbal sharpness. At the finish there is a softness and elegance. A most complex, unusual spirit”, quotes The Beverage Testing Institute which awarded this rum a Platinum Medal and Best Buy.

Gosling’s Gold Bermuda Rum

Gosling’s Gold Rum is a recipe handed down through six generations and is a lighter rum, impressing enthusiasts the world over. This is luscious amber liquid delivers a full rich smooth flavor, with a nose of vanilla, apricot, mango and a lightly smoked oak character. The taste is smooth but robust, with hints of citrus, tropical flavors and nutty undertones. Gosling’s Gold includes products of both pot still and continuous still distillates. One imparts flavor, the other yields a subtle elegance. A blend of pot still distillates aged five years, this unique proprietary blend is what sets Gosling’s Gold apart from others. Awarded a Gold Medal at 2003 International Rum Festival.

Gosling’s Old Rum

Appropriately called Gosling’s Family Reserve Old Rum, it is crafted from the same incomparable Bermuda blend that Gosling’s uses for their renowned Black Seal Rum. It is rested in oak barrels, aging until it has acquired an extra luscious, nuanced complexity much like a rare Scotch or Cognac . A spirit this unusual deserves more than the usual bottle and label. So, Gosling’s takes each bottle, hand-label it, dip it in wax, number it, encircle it with a metal band and then place it in a straw-filled wooden box reminiscent of days past. At the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, Old Rum was honored with a Double Gold Medal.

Rhums JM
Country of Origin:  Martinique

Celebrated single estate cask-strength Rhum JM debuts in the U.S. this Fall.

This September, Clément USA Inc. will introduce the celebrated Rhum JM from Martinique to key markets around the country. Benjamin Jones, head of Clément USA explains, “The interest in Rhum Agricole is fast growing in the US, so we believe the time has come to introduce JM’s exceptional rhums to select audiences.” JM’s highly recognizable packaging – a squat bottle with a label displaying a wood-cut of the distillery – reflects the rare characteristics of these Rhums.

A single estate rhum from a unique terroir

Regarded as the “Rolls” of Rhum Agricole, JM is made exclusively from selected sugar cane grown on JM’s Bellevue estate. Located at the foot of the Mt. Pelée volcano in Martinique and surrounded by tropical forrest, JM enjoys a unique terroir.

Meticulously crafted and cask-strength bottled

All JM Rhums are meticulously crafted from the fresh juice of the carefully pressed sugar canes. After fermentation and distillation of the vesou – the fresh juice of the sugar canes – the rhums are aged before bottling. During their aging, the level of alcohol progressively drops. Because JM never adds water to reduce the alcohol content of its rhums, the younger white and oak-aged rhums will be shipped at 50% ABV while older blended and vintage-dated rhum will ship at 45-50%.

Rhum JM Blanc

The Rhum JM Blanc combines the intense power of the best sugarcane on the island of Martinique . Aromas of white pepper and lilies give way to pineapples, raspberry and warm biscuits on the palate. The finish is long and dry. Perfect for delicious fruit cocktails, a mojito or a simple Ti’ Punch

Rhum JM Gold

Aged in small oak barrels for a minimum of 12 months, JM Gold displays a rich golden color. Its flavors are dominated by fresh cane with notes of spices and fruit. On the palate its aromas of dried fruit coat the palate. Long finish. Enjoy in a side-car!

Rhum JM Special Reserve

JM Special Reserve is a blend of 4- and 5-year old rhums selected and blended together to create a fine sipping aged rhum. Aromas combine cane flavors, spices and dried fruits.

“This rhum has the spicy characteristic style of JM…It combines the smooth taste of alcohol with delicate woody notes.” Martine NOUET

Rhum JM Vintage

This gorgeous 10-year old rhum – vintage1997 has just replaced 1996 – has elegant copper tones. Its generous bouquet of toasted nut, lemon and sage is followed by flavors of fruit cake, mango and passion fruit with hints of white pepper, cinnamon and nutmeg. The explosion of aromas on the palate is matchless.

Rhum JM Rare Vintage “Leather label/Green top”

Always 15 years old, Rhum JM Rare Vintage currently showcases the 1992 vintage. With an intense copper color and mahogany reflections, its visual appearance is as pleasing as its remarkable flavors and gastronomic qualities.

Rhum JM 1992 offers an opulent bouquet of dried orange peel, banana, and nutty aromas followed by a smooth expression of ripe papaya and mango on the palate. The finish explodes with an extraordinaire range of spices and tobacco nuances perfectly .

Jack Tar is a blend of the finest Jamaican rums, distilled and matured in the age-old Caribbean tradition. Named after the free spirited sailors whose ships plied the wild oceans in search of undiscovered continents, Jack Tar’s exceptional smoothness and superb flavor still capture that untamed spirit of adventure. 86 proof 84 Points BTI - Outperforming it’s island rival Appleton Estate V/X Rum !

Tasting Notes: Copper color. Sweet toffee, coffee, raisin and peppery spice aromas. Round entry and medium-bodied with dried fruit, cream, caramel, and nuts flavors on the palate with a touch of varnish and latex. Finishes with a peppery, slightly vaporous fade.

Nepal Distilleries
Country of Origin: Nepal

This rums enigmatic dark color offers an elegant contrast against the shimmering gold foil of the bottle’s label. The aroma, as expected, is robust and generous, broadcasting signals of wet oak, dry fruits and caramel. Khukri Rum expands nicely in the palate as well, reinforcing the olfactory notion of a well-rounded rum. Hints of butterscotch, licorice and nutmet can be derived from its complexion. Not surprisingly, considering its origins in Nepal, this rum begs to be consumed with hot water or in any hot beverage. This is an outstanding rum from a distillery which has been at it since 1959. Without a doubt one of Nepal’s last secrets. (Source: Luis Ayal

Leblon LLC
Country of Origin: Brazil

LEBLON Cachaça is named after the Rio beach first settled by Frenchman Charles Le Blond.  LEBLON approached their creation like a fine wine, with batch-production in Brazil then light-aging and refining in France, the name seemed all too à propos.  Not to mention...they happened to be drinking Caipirinhas on Leblon Beach at the time, and fell in love with the Two Brother Mountains at the end of the beach.

LEBLON won the Gold Medal in the 2006 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. In December ’06, the Beverage Testing Institute announced LEBLON as the winner of the Cachaca category tasting, awarding it 93 points and an ‘Exceptional’ rating, noting LEBLON as "clear with a faint straw hue. Sweet creamy vanilla pudding, light caramel, and spicy aromas. A smooth entry leads to an off-dry medium-full body of toasty coconut shavings, creamy vanilla, and brown spices. Finishes with a long, caramel, mineral, and white pepper fade. A very nice, vibrant-yet-mellow style. (tasted on Nov-30-2006).

Junior Merino states, “its AROMA is Lychee, Fresh Sugar Cane, Rosemary, Basil, Strawberries and Grapefruit. It’s TASTE starts with a silky mouth feel and gets complex exhibiting various herbs and fruits. Basil, Oregano, Citrus Peel, Sugar Cane Water, Watermelon and Berries. It’s FINISH: long, complex with a minty and anis aftertaste”.

Albert Trummer says the NOSE has a beautiful scent of sugarcane. Its TASTE carries a light flavor with a clean taste, balanced with natural hint of sweetness. Its TEXTURE is smooth”.

Sante Magazine furthers that LEBLON is “Rich and complex on the palate with citrus, cucumber, lime and a pleasant oil note; long smooth citrus finish”. Cigar Aficionado stated that LEBLON “has a pear, honey and citrus nose with hints of berries. The mouthfeel is lush and substantial. There is a slightly jammy undercurrent and it closes with a citrus and earth finish. Some of the earthier-tasting Cubans, Criollo cigars, and cigars with darker Ecuadoran wrappers will complement LEBLON well”.

Mainstay - South Africa's pure and original cane spirit. A true legend.
Mainstay is a legend in the liquor industry -the only spirit in South Africa ever to reach a volume in excess of 15 million litres per annum (1980/1981)! It is known across the world and is still a firm favorite with thousands of consumers. Who can ever forget the famous line "You can stay as you are for the rest of your life or you can change to Mainstay!"

Cane spirit, unique to South Africa, is as special to this country as tequila is to Mexico! It was created in the cane fields of KwaZulu-Natal and originally known as 'gavine' or 'mystery liquor'. As the name implies, cane spirit is distilled from fermented molasses, by the continuous column still method. Mainstay, the resultant spirit, is extremely pure and crystal clear.

Mainstay was launched in KwaZulu-Natal in 1954 and attained national status by 1967. Initially, it was sold in local shebeens to an Indian and black market. From the mid-1960s, a growing number of consumers in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng, started taking to cane spirits - especially Mainstay, soon to be the top selling brand in the country.
Mainstay has been a trophy brand for SFW (now Distell) since the 1960s. Although its volumes today are not what they were many years ago, it is still one of the biggest and most popular local white spirits.

Mainstay is synonymous with cane and will remain a true legend.

“A very aromatic rum with lots of flavor. Floral nose; aroma reminiscent of hibiscus and papaya fruit. Tasted straight, One Barrel is quite smooth without a "bite" to it. You can taste the memory of the molasses that was used to make the rum. The molasses flavor isn't overpowering, but it's there in the background. This makes the rum mix well with juices and colas, which are the most common mixers for rum drinks. The hint of molasses seems to "complete" the flavor of the mixers, actually improving the taste when compared to the mixer alone. The finish is pleasant, with toffee and toasted cashew flavors in the profile. People who taste One Barrel rum usually end up being One Barrel drinkers, even if they hated rum before they tried this one”.

Made in copper pot stills similar in design and using techniques of the masters of old, Prichard’s Fine Rum may be an accurate recreation of that ancient spirit and return to tradition of distilling hand crafted spirits and rum as it was meant to be. Using only Tennessee’s crystal clear spring water, Prichard’s uses only ‘Grade A Fancy” molasses from the plantations of Louisiana. Considerably more expensive than regular molasses, its mild flavor and pleasant aroma are passed through the still imparting a smooth and tasteful character to the finished spirit.

Patron Spirits Company

CJ Planter, as a wily young English sailor, jumped ship on a remote Caribbean island somewhere in the late 1800s. He soon fell in love with a beautiful young island girl reported to be the illegitimate daughter of a prominent cane grower. Rumor holds that she was conceived one wild full moon carnival night from a rum impassioned affair. The grower became quite fond of CJ and treated him as a son. Through mysterious circumstances, the kindly old grower died one night in a fire at his plantation house. Unbeknownst to the community, the old planter, having no immediate family, willed his holdings to CJ and his Caribbean wife. CJ's mother in law, rumored to dabble in magic and witchcraft, suggested to her daughter that the island needed a fine local rum. CJ and his wife built the first rum factory on the island. Their rum became highly prized throughout the Caribbean and Europe, often being hoarded and traded by famous pirates and merchant seamen. Many said that the rum held mystical powers. CJ, having traveled extensively before finding his home in the Caribbean, knew that rum had originated in the Orient. Subsequently, it was decided that they needed a mascot for their new rum. CJ being a poet and philosopher by nature, reasoned that their mascot should be HOTI (pronounced Ho-Tie), the famous Zen patron saint and protector of little children, fortune tellers, and bartenders. Coincidentally this created the perfect irony, since many of their discerning customers were the worldly and infamous pirates and rogues of the day.

Over time their most famous brands became Planters Gold Pyrat XO Reserve and Pyrat Cask 23.

A select blend of fine, 15 year old Caribbean rums. Its smooth taste and delicious flavor is complimented by its rich amber color. Pyrat XO Reserve is excellent of ice with a twist of lemon or as an ingredient in a premium rum drink.

Zacapa Centenario 15 & 23 Year Old Rums

Gold Medal Winners 2006

This rum was a specialty item made for just the owners of Industrias Licoreras (Distillery) for many years. This rum is produced in a small town in Guatemala which it's name is (Zacapaneca ). In this small town the majority of the population make their income from artisan products made from "Royal Palm". Which is considered art. The artisans pride themselves in making this masterfully crafted, hand-woven wrapper for Ron Zacapa.

This rum is aged like no other rum in the Caribbean. After distilling is complete they rest the rums in American oak barrels. The altitude where they age the rum, in Bodegas, is 8,000 feet above sea level where the weather is cool and limits the loss of a considerable amount of rum that naturally evaporates during the aging process. In some countries the lost product is called the (Angels Share). This allows the rum to have the aging of 23 years.

Many experts consider this rum to be the best in the world. This rum has earned its place in the history books as a benchmark for super-premiums. First place winner in the premium rums category in the 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2001 International Rum Festival tasting Competition.
