Despite an undergraduate degree in French and theatre and a master's in public administration, LeNell Smothers defines herself first and foremost as a bartender.
She’s lugged bottles of alcohol all over New York City as a wholesale sales rep, charmed guests as a front of the house restaurant manager, and owned a darn good liquor store in Brooklyn, New York called LeNell’s that was recognized by numerous publications including GQ magazine as one of the "Best 50 Stores in America," by Whisky magazine as "US Retailer of the Year," by New York magazine as "Best Liquor Store" and by NYC Department of Small Business Services as "Small Business of the Year."
She's happy to have found a new life in La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico with partner Demián Camacho Santa Ana. Besides proudly claiming the title of bartender, Demián is currently also in law school. They now own and operate a libation haven called Casa Cóctel , a reservation only bar with a room for rent as a vacation refuge in Baja. They are currently working on content for a book on traditional Mexican bebidas.
